Free-Open-50

Free-Open-50 is a unique blend of Olivine Sand (standard EBT Sand) and a special round-grained Beach Silica sand. The carefully blended sand is intended for use in EAF Meltshops using EBT practice particularly where consistent free openings are a problem.

Free-Open-50 has proven its superior performance in selected Steel Mills where traditional Olivine or Olimag cause costly delays through taphole lancing.

Through experience, we have found that the round-grained Silica prevents the Olivine from compacting in the Taphole; also, the Silica helps to prevent .build-up. around the Taphole; the high MgO content in the Olivine helps prevent excessive wear.
